Wolf is the king of Lithuanian forests

Wolf is the king of Lithuanian forests. A large part of Lithuanian folk songs, tales and legends tell about this animal. Nowadays we really care about preserving wolves and that is the reason why on the 30th of August Dzūkija National Park has organized the event named “Wolf”. That day an exhibition of Vaiva Šaulienė graphic works, called “Wolf trails” was opened. We have also listened to a lecture about wolves which gave Lina Paškevičiūtė, a representative of Environmental Protection Association “Baltic Wolf”. The head of the Nature Department of Dzūkija National Park and Čepkeliai State Nature Reserve Mindaugas Lapelė extended the story about wolves in Lithuanian folklore. And we have also had a possibility to hear about plants and mushrooms which names are compounds with the word wolf.
In the centre of Marcinkonys village the rural Dean Vilius Petraška unveiled the sculpture of the wolf created by Tautvydas Averka as a symbol of Marcinkonys village. The flag of Marcinkonys also has three wolves illustrated.
At the end of the event Emilis Tamošiūnas has showed us the values of the Čepkeliai State Nature Reserve in the Čepkeliai educational trail.
We would like to thank the volunteer Aldona Juozaitytė who was the instigator of the event.
The exhibition will be opened until the 1st of October in the Visitor’s centre in Marcinkonys, Šilagėlių str. 11.
