PAN (Protected Area Network) parks are an International organization, which coordinates activity, directed at preservation of the wild nature in Europe, promoting balanced and nature-friendly tourism, implementing certification of protected areas. Lithuanian protected areas – Čepkeliai strict nature reserve and Dzūkija National Park – received the status of PAN park on September 15th, 2011.
Territories, which have such status, are characterized by high quality of tourism facilities, which is in tune with nature protection and harmonious local development. At the moment, 13 protected areas already have the status of PAN parks in Europe.
